US State Dept: We Trust Lu

The US State Department supports the work of Ambassador Lu in Albania. The response of the US government comes at the heels of an opinion article originally published in The Huffington Post in which Luke Coffey, Director at the Foreign Policy Center of the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, declared that Ambassador Lu intervened in internal Albanian politics.

Coffey claimed that the clash between Ambassador Lu and General Prosecutor Adriatik Llalla was a “partisan intervention by the U.S. Embassy the pre-empting a major ‘vetting’ effort underway for members of the country’s judicial system.” In a reaction for Top Channel, the spokesperson for the US State Department Mark Toner declared that the US has complete confidence in Ambassador Lu.

The US will continue to speak out in favor of the study of law and the judicial reform and against the attempts to manipulate its implementation. As we already said on February 3, the State Department has the full trust in our embassy and Ambassador Lu.
