Western Balkan States To Create Economic Area

Reuters reports that the Western Balkan countries of Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia are planning to launch a project to form a regional economic area, which eventually would lead to a single market of 20 million people.

According to European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Vice President Pierre Heilbronn, the EBRD will support the initiative, in which it already invested €10 billion over the past years.

The Western Balkans economic area would remove trade barriers between the individual countries and harmonize legal framework, also with an eye of conforming to the EU acquis communautaire.
