Woman Arrested on Italian Terrorism Charges Pleads to Serve Sentence in Albania

The court of Tirana on Tuesday imposed the security measure ‘prison arrest’ for Lubjana Gjecaj, convicted in Italy as part of an ISIS cell. She is expected to be extradited to Italy.

It is learned that during the hearing, Gjecaj stated that she wanted to serve her sentence in Italy. She said she wanted to remain in Albania as she has three minor children.

She was arrested on Saturday,5  September in Tirana. Gjecaj, 43, was part of a terrorist group in Italy that recruited citizens by promising them marriage and then sent soldiers to the Islamic State of ISIS.

She was sentenced in Italy to four years in prison by a Milan court.
