World Bank: 34% of Albanians Live in Poverty

According to data from the World Bank over 2016 published in its recent Migration and Mobility report, 5.8% of the Albanian population lives in extreme poverty, while 34% live in poverty.

The World Bank defines extreme poverty is living on less than $1.90 per day, whereas poverty is defined as living $2–$5.5o per day.

Compared to 2015 and 2014, there is a slight reduction of 2% of people living poverty, while the group living in extreme poverty has not shrunk significantly over the years. Compared to the other countries in the region, poverty levels in Albanian remain high. In Kosovo 2.9% of the population lives in extreme poverty, while the poverty level in Macedonia is 22.8%.
