Albania has the lowest happiness index in the region and among the lowest in Europe according to the 2020 World Happiness report.
The data obtained in the period 2017-2019, show that Albania is ranked 105th out of 153 countries. The only European countries below are Ukraine and Armenia.
In terms of the region, Northern Macedonia ranks 90th, Bosnia and Montenegro respectively 69th, 70th while Serbia 64th. Kosovo ranks much higher, in 35th place.
Albania’s index is estimated at 4.88 by the report which shows that over three years it has fallen by 0.65, one of the biggest drops globally. Taking into account the current rating, Albania is estimated to have lost 25 places in the rankings.
The World Happiness Report is a United Nations publication. It contains articles and rankings of national happiness, based on respondents’ assessments of their lives, which the report also links to various factors.
The 2020 World Happiness Report, released on March 20, 2020, ranks 156 countries based on the average of three annual surveys conducted between 2017 and 2019. The 2020 report focuses specifically on the environment – social, urban, and natural, and includes links between happiness and sustainable development.
Finland is ranked as the happiest country in the world for the third year in a row.
It is followed by Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, and Norway. Afghanistan got the lowest score, with South Sudan and Zimbabwe. In addition to ranking countries, this is the first year that the World Happiness Report lists cities. The happiest city in the world is Helsinki, the capital of Finland. The report shows that the ranking of happiness of cities is almost identical to that of the countries in which they are located.
As for Tirana, it has left behind only two European cities, Pristina and Kyiv.
Tirana ranks 126th out of 186 countries analyzed in the report.
