US Deputy Assistant Secretary Hoyt Brian Yee will arrive today in Tirana as part of his tour through the Western Balkans region. His visit will be yet another attempt of the international community to arrive at a “compromise” between Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government and the opposition led by PD leader Lulzim Basha.
In Montenegro, Yee expressed himself openly against the parliamentary boycott that the PD has been waging since February 18:
Parliaments should represent and defend citizens’ interests. MPs who are boycotting the Parliament shirk their responsibility and ignore the former US President, Theodore Roosevelt’s advice that the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, not to the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.
Yee will meet with Prime Minister Rama, Basha, and President-Elect Ilir Meta.
He is also expected to meet with three “dissidents” in the Democratic Party, Majlinda Bregu, Astrit Patozi, and Jozefina Topalli, in what can be interpreted as another attempt of the international community to “split up” the opposition, as earlier attempted by the trio of EU Ambassador Romana Vlahutin, US Ambassador Donald Lu, and OSCE Ambassador Bernd Borchardt.
