After a month of debates and postponement, the Macedonian parliament has voted in favor of the dismissal of Chief Prosecutor Marko Zvrlevski, known as an ally of former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.
64 of the 120 deputies in parliament voted in favor of the decision to dismiss Zvrlevski, while the deputies of Gruevski’s VMRO-DPMNE left parliament ahead of the vote.
Since the formation of his new government, Prime Minister Zaev had announced the dismissal Zvrlevski, who is being accused of openly favoring Gruevski, his party, and officials from the previous government.
Zvrlevski is accused of interfering in the investigation of the corruption scandals around Gruevski, which brought on the downfall of his government and the political crisis in Macedonia.
The coming days new candidates for the position of Chief Prosecutor are expected to be announced.
