The 150 workers from the oil refinery in Fier are protesting again about their wages and health insurance, which continue not to be paid. They declare that the promise to pay two months of wages and complete 12 months of missing health insurance payments has not been kept.
In January, a refinery worker threatened to jump from one of the towers in the factory, after they had not received their wages for four months and health insurance payments lagged behind 22 months. They sent a letter to Minister of Energy Damian Gjiknuri and Prime Minister Edi Rama to address the problem.
A similar letter was sent again in April, and two weeks ago the workers protested in front of the Ministry of Energy, demanding their rightful wages and insurance.
The workers have threatened the government with a strike, should the working conditions not improve.
