Gruevski Attacks “Tirana Platform”

Former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, and his nationalist VMRO-DPMNE party have publicly attacked the agreement signed by the Albanian minority parties in Tirana in January 2017.

In a press declaration, the VMRO-DPMNE, which a plurality of votes during the December 11 general elections, stated:

In the previous elections the citizens voted for the VMRO-DPMNE and not for the Tirana platform. It cannot be allowed that a platform of Tirana become the condition for the formation of the Government in the Republic of Macedonia. That government would be the Government of Tirana.

Since a few days, Macedonia is in a constitutional crisis due to President Gjorgje Ivanov’s refusal to give SDSM leader Zoran Zaev a mandate to form a majority government with the Albanian minority parties. This refusal is the result of the adoption of the Tirana platform, directed by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in January.
