Italian Anti-Mafia Prosecutor: Albanian Drugs Worrying for Italy

During the presentation of his book The Opposite of Fear: Why Islamic Terrorism and the Mafia Can Be Overcome, Italian Anti-mafia and Anti-terrorism Prosecutor Franco Roberti’s response to journalists’ questions regarding the increase in drug trafficking from Albania to Italy was that “It is a very worrying phenomenon.”

Recently we have gone, together with the prosecutors of Bari, Lecce, and Catanzaro, to meet our Albanian colleagues in Tirana,  just to urge closer cooperation and urge investigations into that territory, because in fact we have seen that the traffic of drugs from Albania to Puglia and Calabria has increased significantly. We are speaking here of tons, and just a few days before we went in Tirana a ton of drugs had been seized in Puglia.
