There are 36,961 cases pending at the High Court of Albania, according to data published by the institution.
Between January and February this year, 520 cases were reviewed. From 108 administrative cases, 79 final decisions were issued and 29 interim decisions. 229 civil cases were reviewed with 200 final decisions and 29 interim decisions. Some 111 criminal cases were reviewed.
The newly functional court has three judges, a quorum which allows reviewing of cases. The court was dysfunctional for around a year due to the vetting process and a number of resignations.
At the current pace, it will take 12 years to review the backlog of cases in the High Court.
