Nearly 13% of the Albanian population has applied for the 2018 US Visa Lottery. According to data published by the US Department of State, 367,231 Albanians applied for a US green cards.
In comparison with 2015, when 7% of the population applied, the current percentage has nearly doubled, showing the ever growing desire of the Albanian population to leave their country.
According to the US State Department, Albania ranks 4th in the world as regards the number of visa lottery winners. Over the last 12 years, 44,806 Albanians have won permanent residence in the US.
The visa lottery, which aims to diversify the US population, offers annually 50,000 visa for applicants from different countries, however, only a minority of winners makes it through the entire trajectory.
