Police forces were seen this morning at the house of Jakup Krasniqi, former parliament speaker of Kosovo.
Krasniqi was one of the key figures of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) during the war with Serbia. He served as the political spokesperson of KLA.
It is not confirmed yet that the raid in Krasniqi’s house is related to The Hague- based Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office. The Hague-based court was set up to try suspects for crimes committed during and after the Kosovo war.
The Specialist Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that there is an operation taking place in Prishtina.
“The Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) is conducting ongoing operations in Pristina. The operations of the SPO are being supported by the Kosovo Police and the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX). More information will follow in due course,” reads the statement issued on Wednesday morning.
Krasniqi also served as acting president of Kosovo and was one of the closest politicians with the president Hashim Thaci, then leader of Democratic Party of Kosovo.
In 2014 Krasniqi alongside the former KLA commander, Fatmir Limaj launched the Initiative for Kosovo (Social Democratic Initiative) and left Thaci’s party.
