On the first day of mandator mask-wearing in public, Albanian police gave 171 fines nationally for non-compliance.
With fines at 3000 ALL each, this makes a total of 513,000 ALL or EUR 4,145.
From observing people on the streets, the level of compliance seemed to be around 70%. Exit did note police stationed on Shehsi Wilson who did not appear to be stopping those without masks.
Those caught offending for a second time will receive a fine of 5000 ALL. The government decided to make masks mandatory after an increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 in the country.
