European Commission spokeswoman Maja Koçijançiç, to the question of Ora News journalists whether she supports the opposition protest she answered:
“You would, as you follow the situation in your country quiet closely, know that when the boycott has started we actually expressed regret, because we believe that the political debate should not take place outside but inside the parliament. From our perspective the cooperation of the government and the opposition and the dialogue are crucial for the country’s submission to joining the european union. Obviously the preparation of the upcoming elections are an important part of this process and we will of course follow the developments very closely. The deadline for registering is today and for us is very important that we see well prepared, free and fair elections later this year.”
Mrs. Koçijançiç suggest collaboration and dialogue between the two main political parties as the only solution of the crisis. She states that these elections are important for the accession process of Albania in EU.
We note that February 2017, the European Parliament adopted the draft-resolution for Albania, drafted from European Parliament Member Knut Fleckenstain. The report states clearly that the opening of negotiations for Albania’s accession in EU is conditioned by the timely full implementation of the five conditions.
