The Hague-based Specialist Prosecutor’s Office has compiled the testimony of 153 witnesses and over 43,000 pages of documents for the purpose of the Confirmed Indictment against four Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) senior figures, Radio Free Europe reports.
The Status Conference on the case will take place today at 11 am at the Specialist Chambers.
Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, former leader of Kosovo Democratic Party Kadri Veseli, former Parliament Speaker Jakup Krasniqi and the former MP Rexhep Selimi are facing the trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Four of them were members of the KLA Headquarters holding high-level positions during the war.
During today’s hearing, the Prosecution will present its evidence.
According to submissions from the Special Prosecutor that were sent to the Special Court for this case and then published on their website, the prosecution states it has around 43,108 pages of evidence including reports, witness statements, photographs, and more than 20 hours of audio-video footage.
This evidence will be handed to the defence, including the witnesses.
The prosecution said a further 50 witness testimonies could also be included.
Thaci, Veseli, Krasniqi and Selimi are charged with six counts of crimes against humanity, namely: persecution, imprisonment, other inhumane acts, torture, murder and enforced disappearance of persons; as well as four counts of war crimes, namely: arbitrary detention, cruel treatment, torture and murder.
All of them plead not guilty at their initial appearances before the court.
