The President of the Healthcare Trade Union Federation, Blerim Syla said that in a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, 500 anti-COVID-19 vaccines have been confirmed for Kosovo’s healthcare workers.
Over 90% of Kosovo’s doctors have responded to Albania’s invitation for vaccination.
“Last week we conducted a survey where 94.3% of doctors were in favor of vaccination and this shows interest,” Pleurat Sejdiu, the president of the Kosovo Doctors Chambers told the public broadcaster, RTK.
He added that it is a good thing that the union of healthcare workers is involved in the process “in order to have transparency”.
Blerim Syla, which is staying in Albania to monitor the process of vaccination for Kosovo’s doctors, announced that 250 healthcare workers will be sent to Kukes to get vaccinated on Saturday.
He announced that 250 other healthcare workers will be vaccinated on the days to come.
This decision was taken after a meeting between the delegation of the Healthcare Trade Union Federation of Kosovo and the Kosovo Ambassador to Albania, Nait Hasani.
Kosovo remains the only country in the region that did not receive any dose of the anti-COVID vaccine.
Zemaj and the outgoing Prime Minister, Avdullah Hoti initially said that the vaccines were expected to arrive in February. However, it is not clear yet when the Kosovo population will have the opportunity to be vaccinated.
On Friday, Kosovo recorded the highest number of daily infections during 2021, respectively 828 new cases. 1,744 deaths related to COVID-19 were registered.
