ONM Observer Criticizes Anti-Corruption Prosecution Over Daci Case

International Monitoring Operation (ONM) observer Theo Jacobs has criticized the investigations of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution Office (SPAK) and the court ruling that suspended Special Appeals Chamber (KPA) member Luan Daci.

According to Reporter, during the vetting hearing of Shkodra Appeals judge Selim Kryeziu, Jacobs said that “prosecutors and judges that shouldn’t have been there raised accusations of things that weren’t criminal acts.”

SPAK chairperson Arben Kraja responded to Jacobs’ claims by saying that all of SPAK’s prosecutors had passed their vetting and, if ONM had doubts regarding their integrity, they should have reacted during the vetting process.

KPA judge Luan Daci stands accused of falsifying documentation after failing to disclose his 1997 dismissal. Consequently, SPAK requested Daci’s suspension.

Though the first instance Special Court suspended Daci, an Appeals Court ruling reinstated him. The case is currently under review by the High Court.
