Record Number of New COVID-19 Cases in Kosovo, 68% of Tests Result Positive

Kosovo has registered 276 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, a record number since the beginning of pandemic.

Eight deaths were reported today, also one of the highest numbers during the pandemic. The death toll has reached 185.  

In their daily report, the National Institute of Public Health (NIPHK) announced that 404 tests were administered in the last 24 hours, which means that a staggering 68 percent of tests have resulted positive.

Kosovo has reported a total of 7,413 infections, of which 3,201 remain active cases.

598 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country. 331 patients are treated for Covid-19, of which 43 are in critical condition.

“The situation has worsened in recent days, although we still have the situation under control,” said Naser Ramadani of the NIPHK.

The opposition in Kosovo has accused the government of being unable to control the situation.

The current Hoti Government took power on 3 June 2020. Graphics show a steady rise in numbers since then.

Deputy prime minister Besnik Tahiri called on Kosovars on Monday to stick to distancing and hygiene rules instead of pointing the finger at the government. Minister of Health Armend Zemaj announced that the government is planning to provide 500 thousand face masks for free for the population.
