Last week, the Albanian government passed two new bills relating to discrimination and domestic violence.
In connection with the changes in the law on domestic violence, a measure has been added that means the abuser is required to leave the property where they both reside. This measure will be mandatory in every case. Other measures are also expected to be announced including placing the abuser in a rehabilitation institution if they are addicted to alcohol or drugs, or have mental health issues.
The anti-discrimination law will be amended to provide for the prohibition of hate speech against women in politics. It is also expected that there will be changes to the categories that are legally considered as discriminated against. A source told Exit that this will likely include sex characteristics, including intersex.
Exit will bring more information on the two bills when they are published in due course.
