The government is working to provide the anti-Covid vaccine, regardless of price, according to Prime Minister Edi Rama.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Prime Minister Rama stated that at the moment the government is not discussing the price of the vaccine, but only the possibility to have access to the vaccine:
“We are not at the stage where we can choose cheap or expensive, but we are at the stage where we are trying every day to ensure that we have the vaccine available starting from the vaccination of nurses, teachers, police officers and then all other citizens.”
“What we need is for us not to be left behind and to make the vaccine available to this category of people as soon as possible.”
Rama stressed that Albania does not have the advantage of vaccine producing or powerful countries, but is working to ensure the vaccine is secured nonetheless.
Regarding the type of vaccine or prices, Rama said:
“This is an intensive process that is taking place every day and I hope we do not lag behind. Price is the last thing we discuss in this process. ”
Rama previously said that the vaccine will be free for all people in Albania.
So far at least four experimental vaccines have been shown to be effective in providing 70-95 per cent immunity to volunteers: the one produced by AstraZeneca and Oxford , the Moderna vaccine, the Biotech and Pfizer vaccine and the Chinese-made Sinovac Biotech .
