The Albanian government has borrowed €15 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to fight the novel coronavirus.
In her speech in Parliament on Thursday, Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu justified the loan with the government need to ensure implementation of measures for physical distancing and tracking of new cases, fund media campaigns on the pandemic, provide patients with distance consultation, purchase equipment for the Covid-19 lab and hospital, train medical staff and provide them with PPE, and store pandemic data.
Manastirliu recalled that her ministry’s budget for health has increased by 23 percent for 2021, and salaries of medical staff by 40 percent.
