After three decades in power, the Democratic Party of Socialists in Montenegro handed over the office of the Prime Minister to the winners of the recent elections.
The now- former Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dusko Markovic confirmed on Twitter that he has handed over the duty to the new Prime Minister, Zdravko Krivokapic.
“We hope that this Government will work in the interest of Montenegro and all its citizens,” Markovic wrote on Twitter.
He said that the meeting on formal handover of the duty is “a confirmation of the democratic content, maturity and responsibility that our policy inherits”.
The new Prime Minister, Krivokapic, and his cabinet, which consists of 12 ministers and a deputy prime minister, were elected at a parliamentary session of the Montenegrin Assembly on December 4th.
In the last parliamentary elections, three opposition coalitions — “For the Future of Montenegro”, “Peace is Our Nation” and “Black on White” — won just enough seats to form a new government and oust the party of Milo Djukanović after nearly 30 years in power.
Dritan Abazović, the leader of the Black on White coalition, also the kingmaker of last elections, will be the country’s, Deputy Prime Minister.
While the two biggest blocks are pro-Serb, Abazović of “Black and White”, whose party has four MPs, has promised to keep the country on EU and NATO tracks. He has also vowed to push for investigations against corrupt politicians.
