The death of anesthesiologist Mihal Kërci on Sunday after he was infected with Covid-19 has brought the death toll amongst Albanian doctors to 25.
President Ilir Meta called on the government to improve the quality and quantity of personal protective equipment for medical staff, purchase vaccines and prioritize their vaccination, as well as raise salaries in the health sector.
Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu expressed condolences for the death of Dr. Kërci.
Opposition leader Lulzim Basha paid homage to the 25 doctors who succumbed to the virus, posting their photographs.
Albania has a population of 2.8 million. It has reported 989 deaths and 47,742 cases. The opposition has accused the government of manipulating the death toll, which the government has vehemently denied.
