Serbia has launched the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 with Prime Minister Ana Brnabic becoming the first to receive one of the 4,875 BioNTech/Pfizer shots on Thursday.
She received the vaccine in Belgrade alongside a couple of other officials, as a sign of trust and in an attempt to encourage all to do the same when vaccines are available.
Serbia received 4,875 doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine on Tuesday. Their use will start from elderly homes where about 14 thousand people are expected to receive it.
The country was one of the first five countries to sign a contract with Pfizer for their vaccine. It became the first in the region to start a vaccination campaign.
Last week, Vucic said his government has secured 340,000 doses to be delivered from January to March, while the Moderna vaccine from the US, the Russian and Chinese vaccines are also expected to be delivered soon.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has promised that a vaccine will arrive in Albania by February but he hasn’t explained how and from where.
