The Head of UNICEF office in Kosovo, Murat Sahin said information on the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine will be announced soon.
He added that today, a delivery of syringes will arrive. They will be used for the vaccination of the Kosovo population.
“Tonight’s flight will deliver first shipment of syringes to be used with COVID-19 vaccines in Prishtina. Soon, there will details of the vaccines arrival,” Sahin wrote in his Twitter account on Thursday evening.
In early January, Zemaj announced that the government had secured over 500,000 doses of anti- COVID vaccine from Pfizer. The outgoing Prime Minister, Avdullah Hoti, had also announced an agreement with Austria for 600,000 vaccines, as well as the “COVAX” program for about 700,000 vaccines.
However, on February 2, Pfizer/BioNtech confirmed that they are still in discussions with the outgoing Government of Kosovo for the supply of coronavirus vaccines.
COVAX is co-led by Gavi, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and World Health Organization (WHO). Its aim is to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world.
Kosovo is listed among the countries that will receive 20% of the COVID-19 vaccine for free through the global GAVI-COVAX alliance.
