The Ministry of Health of Kosovo announced that 60 healthcare workers will be vaccinated with the anti-COVID-19 vaccine in Albania.
The list of healthcare workers has been sent to Albanian authorities who expressed the readiness for the Kosovo doctors to be vaccinated in Kukes.
“Minister [of Health of Kosovo, Armend] Zemaj informed his [Albanian] counterpart, minister Ogerta Manastirliu about the list of volunteers to be vaccinated and in coordination between authorities of both countries, the arrangement of logistical aspects and their vaccination will also be done,” the announcement of the Ministry reads.
Albania offered 100 vaccine doses against coronavirus for Kosovo’s healthcare workers.
Kosovo remains the only Balkan country that did not start the vaccination against COVID-19 yet.
It is expected for the country to receive 100,800 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through COVAX World Health Organization’s program.
Zemaj and the outgoing Prime Minister, Avdullah Hoti initially said that the vaccines were expected to arrive in February. However, it is not clear yet when the Kosovo population will have the opportunity to be vaccinated.
There are currently 11,736 active cases in the country, while 1,736 deaths related to COVID-19 were registered.
