Kosovo Begins Mass Vaccination against COVID-19

On Tuesday, Kosovo started mass vaccination against COVID-19. The Ministry of Health’s goal is to administer 350 thousands vaccines during this first month of mass vaccination.

The Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, stated that the first shipment of vaccines contracted with Pfizer will arrive during June. 279 vaccination teams will be engaged in the process.

At the end of May, the country signed its first agreement with Pfizer/BioNTech to buy over 1.2 million doses of Coronavirus vaccine, to be delivered by the end of 2021.

“Also, around 40 thousand doses of vaccines are expected to arrive through the World Health Organization, COVAX. Alongside with other doses we expect to arrive from COVAX and our international friends, by the end of the year we will have around two million doses of the vaccine against COVID-19,” Vitia told media.

Vitia added that it is the responsibility of the government to administrate vaccines, but the readiness to respond to the vaccination call is the responsibility of citizens.

Kosovo marked a decrease of infection. There are 345 active cases currently in the country, while the number of victims is 2,250.

102,598 citizens have been vaccinated since the country received its first shipment on March 29.
