Third Family Member Dies Following Gas Cylinder Explosion in Albania

A third person has died following a gas cylinder explosion at a family-owned hotel in Velipoje three weeks ago.

Four members of the same family were sent to Italy for specialized medical care following the explosion on July 4th. The two sisters, who were respectively 19 years old and 15 years old, passed away from their injuries. This morning, their mother was pronounced dead as well. Her 12-year-old son is in critical condition.

The police have arrested a gas seller who is believed to have sold the cylinder to the family. Police said they suspected that the gas sales were illegal, and he was not meeting the minimum safety standards. He has been charged with concealing income, unlicensed commercial activity, violation of the law on fuels, and trade and dumping of fuel for consumption in violation of the law.
