There are over 5500 active and confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Albania, according to Health Minister Ogerta Manastirliu.
Some 534 cases were confirmed yesterday, along with a decrease in tests to just 4262. There are 81 people hospitalized at the Infectious Diseases hospital, and one person lost their life on Sunday and another 20-year-old girl from Tropoje died in the early hours of the morning. She was being treated in Gjakova, Kosovo.
The majority of confirmed cases are in Tirana with 2138, followed by Shkodra with 911 and Vlora with 531.
Considering the increase in cases, Manastirliu urged people to take the COVID-19 vaccine and observe safety measures. She reiterated that it’s an open month for vaccination, whereby anyone over 18 can get a vaccine for free. Vaccination centers are open seven days a week from 8 am to 8 pm. Those who wish to take a vaccine, including foreign residents, should take ID with them. Foreign residents should also provide a residence permit.
Tritan Shehu, the ex-Minister of Health, warned that the country could be heading to a new catastrophe. He also called for those over 12 years old to be vaccinated.
According to official data, 1.3 million COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Albania.
