US Embassy in Tirana Calls for Release of Alexey Nalvany in Russia

The US Embassy in Albania has called on the Russian government to immediately release the Russian opposition politician, Alexey Navalny who was poisoned in his home country with a chemical nerve agent one year ago.

The eEmbassy posted a video message on Facebook, recalling Navalny’s poisoning in August 2020, his recovery in Germany after being hospitalized in serious condition, and his return to Russia where he was then arrested and has already spent more than 200 days behind bars.

In the video statement, the US embassy in Albania called on the Russian Government to let the Russian people have the right to express their views peacefully, without the fear of retribution of any kind.

Navalny was arrested due to protests against Russian President Vladimir Putin and his ongoing anti-Putin activism. His supporters staged mass protests across Russia, while the police responded with force. Alexei Navalny has millions of Russian followers on social media, while his anti-corruption video “Putin’s Palace” reached over 100 million views.
