Two Members of Democratic Party of Kosovo Killed on Wednesday

Two members of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) lost their lives after exchanging fire on Wednesday evening.

In a Facebook post, PDK confirmed that the victims are Astrit Ademaj and Blerand Kadrijaj.

Ademaj was PDK’s mayoral candidate for the city of Peja in the upcoming local elections. Kadrijaj had been PDK’s candidate for the municipality of Deçan in 2017.

The accident happened near a high school in Peja. Mayor of Peja, Gazmend Muhaxhiri, told local media the two men had no previously known conflicts, and they exchanged fire after a spontaneous altercation.

Astrit Ademaj’s brother, Avni Ademaj, was injured, and has been arrested by the police.

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti also confirmed the news, sending his condolences to the victims’ families through Facebook.

Kosovo will hold local elections on October 17.
