University students in Albania headed back to their classrooms on Monday, in a belated start to the new academic year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Students are required to provide vaccination certificates or negative PCR test results to police officers upon entering university buildings.
The new academic year was set to start last week, but the government postponed it amidst concerns of low vaccine uptake among students.
Vaccination facilities were set up across university facilities in September, where all students and lecturers can still get their jab for another week.
A survey by a student organization in September showed that only 31% had been vaccinated.
Furthermore, about 66% of the student population said they were not willing to get vaccinated despite vaccines being mandatory to attend classes in person.
