The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) is set to review its leader Zoran Zaev resignation on Tuesday, which will open the way for a new party leader and prime minister.
Prime Minister Zoran Zaev had announced on Friday that he hadn’t flipped over his earlier resignation, while stressing at the same time that the country should avoid snap elections and maintain its path of reform leading to integration into the European Union.
An attempted no-confidence vote to oust his government in parliament failed ten days ago, after the quorum of more than half of MPs was not reached.
Zaev announced his resignation on October 31, following his party’s defeat in local elections.
Once the SDMS acknowledges his resignation, procedures to elect a new leader will set off.
Zaev has said that the new party leader should also be the new prime minister.
Meanwhile, the party leadership is advancing negotiations with Alternativa party of ethnic Albanians to enhance its ruling coalition.
