Since Wednesday, more than 8,000 people have entered Albania through two of its busiest border crossings to celebrate the end of the year holidays.
At least 6,500 Albanians living in Greece have returned to Albania through Kapshtica.
Meanwhile, at Qafe Thane, which connects Albania to North Macedonia, another 3,300 have made the track back to Albania.
These numbers are expected to rise post-Christmas, as more Albanian immigrants come back to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Last year, 3,000 thousand Albanians entered the country on New Year’s Eve alone.
According to a recent poll by Euronews Albania, 95.8% of Albanians consider New Year’s one of the most important holidays, followed by Eid at 63% and Christmas at 27.4%.
Travelers entering Albania must present proof of vaccination, a negative PCR test, or undergo a quarantine period of five days.
