The citizens of Kosovo are set to protest the government’s plan for daily blackouts rolled out last week in response to the country’s energy crisis.
Protestors plan to gather at 1 p.m. in Prishtina, the capital of Kosovo, where they will demand an end to blackouts and the resignation of the Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli.
The government of Kosovo has implemented emergency measures to deal with its energy crisis, approving daily power cuts for the next sixty days.
Earlier last week, KEDS, Kosovo’s energy distribution company, announced there would be country-wide power cuts in response to the ongoing energy crisis.
85% of Kosovo’s domestic energy production comes from thermal power. Outdated stations contribute to low domestic production and a global energy crisis has increased import prices.
KEDS called on citizens to be careful with their energy consumption and use alternative heating measures, as end of the year holidays has led to overloads.
