Armand Duka was reelected president of the Albanian Football Association (FSHF) for a sixth term on Tuesday, March 15.
FSHF’s recent leadership elections have been marred in scandal and in mid-February, a Tirana court suspended the elections as it investigated several allegations of corruption.
In late January, Duka and Tirana mayor Erion Veliaj entered a public spat, trading accusations over corruption, influence, and crime and culminating in a bomb attack on Dako’s house.
Veliaj was caught in a wiretap threatening board members and warning to overthrow Duka, who has been head of FSHF since 2002.
Shortly after, Prosecutors launched an investigation into FSHF regarding an almost €3 million fund allocated by UEFA to Albania.
As a result, a Tirana court suspended Duka from his post and annulled elections to elect a new head.
But FSFH went ahead with the elections despite the ban and Duka won 37 of the National Assembly’s 43 votes.
