The Special Envoy of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, MP Rustem Umerov is in Albania on Friday to meet with government officials and appear in the Parliament.
Albania has led the way regionally in condemning the war on Ukraine, enforcing EU sanctions, and has even donated money and aid to the war effort. Shortly after the Russian invasion started, the Municipality also renamed the street that houses the Russian embassy, ‘Free Ukraine’ street in a show of solidarity.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party Taulant Balla met with Umerov and expressed Albania’s unwavering support for Kyiv.
“We stand by the Ukrainian people and consider this aggression as an attack against freedom and democracy. Heinous crimes against humanity and genocidal acts like those in Bucha will not remain under any circumstances without being investigated and without the intervention of the perpetrators and perpetrators”, he wrote.
He added that Albania would continue, as a part of NATO, to support Ukraine with security assistance to counter Russian aggression and uphold its right to self-defence.
Umerov also met with MP Elisa Spiropali, where they discussed the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the future of Europe.
“Albania showed its support for the Ukrainian people from the beginning, becoming a co-sponsor of this issue together with the United States in the UN Security Council and joining the EU’s economic sanctions against the Russian Federation,” she wrote.
“The approval in the Assembly of the #Resolution that strongly condemns the Russian aggression in Ukraine as well as the military & humanitarian aid, were concrete evidence of those western values that our country raised to the height of the mission, in sync with the allied countries,” her post concluded.
