A number of fires are currently raging across Albania as temperatures soar above 40 for three days in a row.
Albania experienced a worse than usual fire season in 2021, with thousands of hectares destroyed and two lives lost. This year has seen a high number of fires throughout the country, but so far, it has not been on the scale of the previous year.
A total of six significant wildfires are currently active in Shkoder, Lezhe, Elbasan, Berat and Durres. In particular, a large blaze in the region of Orosh, Mirdita is raging out of control. Its difficult location and harsh surrounding terrain has made it difficult even for helicopters to reach the scene.
Teams of firefighters are working hard to stop the blaze on the ground and prevent it from reaching homes and villages.
According to data published by the National Operational Center of Civil Emergencies, in the past 24 hours, 26 wildfires have been reported but most of them were isolated and extinguished quickly.
