Kosovo Reacts to Attack on Albanian Military Site
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, on Sunday (21 August) has condemned the incident at the military plant in Gramsh, Albania where two citizens with Russian passports and one Ukrainian tried to enter the premises and injured military guards.

Through a press release, Kurti wished a speedy recovery to the two Albanian soldiers who were injured when a type of paralysing nerve gas was sprayed into their eyes as they tried to apprehend the suspects.

“Our Ministry of Defense is in contact with the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Albania. We hope that the ongoing investigations by the Albanian authorities will clarify the circumstances of the incident as soon as possible”, the announcement states.

The incident took place at the ex-ammunitions manufacturing plant which now acts as a storage site and disassembly plant. Investigations are ongoing as to who the suspects are, what they were doing in Albania, and what their motives were.

Kurti has long warned of Russian attempts to destabilise the Balkans, including the close allegiance between neighbouring Serbia and the Kremlin.

President Vjosa Osmani also reacted, noting she spoke with Albanian President Bajram Begaj about the attack.

“Wish a speedy recovery to the injured. The perpetrators of this attack must be held accountable. Our institutions stand ready to provide any necessary support,” she wrote on Twitter.
