Minister: Serbia Alone in Europe Refusing to Join Anti-Russian Hysteria

Serbian Minister of the Interior Aleksandar Vulin said during a Monday meeting in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that Serbia was the only European country refusing to introduce sanctions against Russia and join the “anti-Russian hysteria.”

Vulin said that Serbia “does not want to forget the centuries’ old brotherhood” with Russia, expressing “deep gratitude” to Moscow for “consistent respect for the sovereignty and integrity of Serbia and for refusing to recognise the false state of Kosovo.”

The Russian official said that his country would continue to support Serbia in protecting its territorial integrity, referring in not so many words to Kosovo.

Vulin described Lavrov as “a true friend,” adding that he “regretted deeply” that other states had prevented his visit to Belgrade last June and expressed hopes of a future visit.

At the start of the meeting, Lavrov stated that Russia would “gladly receive the Serbian foreign minister in Moscow, at any time that is convenient for him.”

During the visit to Moscow, Vulin also met with representatives of the Rostec company to discuss the continuation of cooperation between his Ministry and the Russian state corporation, as well as a new supply of Russian technical equipment for the Serbian Interior Ministry.
