President Bujar Nishani has decreed new elections on June 25. Both the General Elections and the Local Elections in Kavaja will be held on this new date, as a result of the McAllister+ agreement between Prime Minister Edi Rama and opposition leader Lulzim Basha.
The President of the Republic, H.E. Bujar Nishani, has been informed recently that an agreement between the majority and the opposition has been reached on May 18, 2017, an agreement that allows the inclusion of the opposition in the general parliamentary elections as well as the partial local elections for the Mayor of the Municipality of Kavaja.
Following His institutional and continuous initiative to urge political dialogue with the aim of finding a political solution based on compromise, the President of the Republic highly values this agreement as an important achievement in the interest of the country and the Albanian people.
In this context, the Head of State also expresses his recognition toward the valued contribution offered by the European and American friends of Albania.
Respecting the Constitution and the depositions of the Electoral Code, as well as on the basis of the requests of the heads of the majority and the opposition to determine the date of the parliamentary elections and the partial elections for the Mayor of the Municipality of Kavaja that are part of this agreement, the President of the Republic decided to approve the following requests:
- Change of the elections date for the Parliament of Albania on June 25, 2017. We emphasize that this is the last Sunday of the electoral period envisioned by the Electoral Code for holding parliamentary elections in Albania.
- The President of the Republic has also decided to decree June 25, 2017, as the date for holding the partial local elections for the Mayor of the Municipality of Kavaja.
