Lulzim Basha, the leader of the Democratic Party (PD) in opposition has nominated Arben Kashahu as Secretary for Foreign Relations of the party.
The nomination came after Gerti Bogdani, who held the post since 2007, resigned earlier in the day. He cited his long tenure of office and new challenges awaiting him with the Democratic Party as main reasons for his decision.
Basha praised Bogdani’s work, in particular in relation to strengthening PD’s ties with other center-right European parties and youth forums, and announced the nomination of Kashahu.
Kashahu held senior positions at the Ministry of European Integration, first as Head of the Cabinet in 2005, and then as Secretary General starting from 2006 when the PD led the Albanian government. He was part of the team that negotiated the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU in 2006. Kashahu has an extensive professional experience as lawyer and lecturer.
