A week after being the subject of a grenade attack, Lushnja Mayor Fatos Tushe returned to office.
Mayor Tushe and his secretary were injured when his former driver Gezim Saraci attacked him with a grenade.
The opposition claimed that Saraci was the mayor’s “confidant”, adding that he was involved in drug trafficking and prostitution, and had financed Tushe’s electoral campaign.
In a telephone conversation with the media, Mayor Tushe declined to speak about the previous conflicts he had with Saraci. He downplayed his situation, saying he felt more hurt by media reports than by injuries sustained in the conflict with his former driver.
“[…] At work today, I went through minor injuries, but more serious injuries are those written and reported in the media […]”
The attacker was able to flee the police last week and is still on the run. Authorities have set a EUR 9 thousand reward for his capture.
