Citizens from the Albanian village of Mat have filed lawsuits against a number of state institutions that granted permission for the building of hydropower plants near their properties.
The proposed HPPs will be built on the Seke and Zaji rivers that then flow into the Zall-Gjocaj National Park.
A total of nine people have taken the action against the NGO Eco Albania, as well as the Ministry of Tourism and the Environment, the National Environment Agency, the Mat River Basic Council, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and the Seka Hydropower company.
The Municipality of Mat has also been summoned as a third person in the trial.
The hearing is taking place today at 3.30 pm in Tirana’s Administrative court of the First Instance.
