Today, opposition leader Lulzim Basha and Prime Minister Edi Rama got involved in a social media spat over national coronavirus concerns.
In a Facebook post Basha stated that “the government must cease its propaganda and undertake concrete measures for the inspection of citizens arriving from Italy.” Earlier, Rama declared in a tweet that “as always malicious politicians” want “chaos and disorder” to return to “the past.”
In response, Basha claimed that preventative measures “cannot consist in a television show.” He stressed that inspections must be conducted in full at every point of entry. He also recalled that thousands of citizens are vulnerable to the coronavirus, as they remain in provisional housing tents after the November 26 earthquake destroyed their homes.
At noon today, Rama tweeted that “the coronavirus cannot be fought with politics, generalizations, and fear,” and assured the public that the government is cooperating closely with the World Health Organization.
