Albania Coronavirus Update, 8 April: 22 Dead, 154 Recovered, 17 New Cases, 400 in Total

There are a total of 17 new cases of Coronavirus in Albania, bringing the total to 400. 

Over the last 24 hours, 236 tests were administered on those suspected of having the virus. A total of 2989 cases have been tested in all, 400 of which were positive.

The update was announced by the Ministry of Health this morning. 

A  total of 22 people have lost their lives, most of which had underlying health conditions in addition to the COVID-19 diagnosis. The total number of recovered patients stands at 154, with 23 being cured in the last 24 hours.

The Ministry stated that there are 52 patients in the Infectious Diseases Hospital, five of which are in intensive care. At Shefqet Ndroqi Hospital there are six inpatients, five of which are in intensive care, with four intubated.

Most cases of the infection have been recorded in Tirana, Shkoder and Durres.

The geographical distribution of cases is a follows:

Tirana (190), Durres (38), Lushnje (5), Elbasan (12), Fier (32), Kavaja (8), Rrogozhine (4), Korca (17), Vlora (5), Shkodra (45), Lezha (14), Berat (2), Has (12), Kruja (5), Tropoje (4), Puka (4), Mirdite (3).

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection urged citizens to continue to respect social distancing measures. As the figures of recent days show, where there are cases within the same family, it is important that infection control measures are respected to the maximum within family circles, avoiding visits to relatives for any reason to prevent COVID-19 transmission.
