Which Businesses Can and Cannot Open Today?

From Monday, April 20 a number of businesses that were previously closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be allowed to open.

In order to open, the business must have applied for a permit on the e-Albania portal and have received permission. They are also required to observe sanitary measures and physical distancing.

Those that are able to open include wholesale shops, car sales and repairs, hotels and guest houses and call centres. For a full list, check here

Those that will not be allowed to open and are categorised as medium or high-risk include:

  • Bars, bars, clubs, discos;
  • Restaurants (they are allowed to offer delivery services);
  • Retail sale of clothing, shoes, jewellery, games, flowers, furniture, etc;
  • Gyms, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, other entertainment and sports centres;
  • Aesthetics centres, hairdressers, spas, etc ;
  • Dental clinics;
  • Transportation: urban, intercity, taxi services;
  • Public and non-public schools; course centres (can develop online learning);
  • Cinemas, theatres, galleries, museums, libraries.

Businesses that will be opened without permission and without sanitary measures against the spread of COVID-19 will be punished, according to Prime Minister Edi Rama.

If the number of those affected and victims of COVID-19 continues to decline, Prime Minister Rama has promised that after April 27 there will be another block of businesses that will be allowed to operate.
