Albania Coronavirus Update, 24 April: 27 Dead, 15 New Cases, 394 Recovered, 678 in Total

There have been 15 new cases of COVID-19 in Albania within the last 24 hours.

In the morning briefing, the Ministry of Health reported that 259 tests were conducted, 15 of which came back positive. Out of the new cases, nine were in Tirana and were all contacts of previous cases. Two cases are in Mirdita, one in Shkodra, one in Kukes, one in Has, and one in Kurbin.

This brings the total number of cases during the pandemic to 678.

Eugena Tomini, a specialist at the Institute of Public Health said that over the last day, nine patients have recovered, bringing the total of 394, or 58.1% of the total number of cases.

Overall 6768 suspected cases have been tested and around 10% have come back positive.

There are 257 active cases in the country and the Ministry said that the percentage of those recovering is increasing. Tomini said there are 30 inpatients at the Infectious Diseases Hospital and four in intensive care. At Shefqet  Ndroqi, there are eight hospitalised patients with four in intensive care.

The geographical distribution of cases is as follows: Tirana (285), Durres (42), Lushnje (6), Elbasan (18), Fier (36), Kavaja (9), Rrogozhina (4), Korca (19), Vlora (5), Shkoder (103), Lezha (14), Berat (2), Has (14), Kruja (65), Tropoje (4), Puka (5), Mirdita (5), Kukes (12), Mallakaster (1), Kurbin (29)
