Places of worship in Albania may be allowed to reopen on May 18.
Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke to religious leaders today, saying the government will give concrete regulations for religious institutions on May 18, once the second stage of the government’s plan has been configured in its entirety.
Albanian religious leaders, consisting in the head of the Albanian Muslim Committee (KMSh) Bujar Spahiu, Catholic Archbishop George Frendo, Archbishop Anastasios of Albania of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church, leader of the Bekatshi Order Baba Mondi, Evangelical Alliance of Albania president Ylli Doci, and General Secretary of Interreligious Council of Albania Genti Kruja, asked the Prime Minister for places of worship to be reopened under strict health and safety measures.
Previously, a group of Muslim worshipers asked KMSh to open up mosques, with all the necessary physical distancing and hygienic rules, during the month of Ramadan.
